Job Title

Level 3 Apprenticeship Machinist Technician – Caterpillar Inc.

Location: Peterborough, England, United Kingdom

Job Type

Full‑time, 4‑year advanced apprenticeship (Level 3)

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Prototype Machinist Team to interpret complex designs and produce prototype mechanisms, tools, and components.
  • Operate and maintain CNC machines, manual mills, lathes, and grinders to manufacture precision parts.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, set up equipment and select appropriate tooling.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical or process issues.
  • Collaborate with mentors and team members to solve real‑world engineering problems.
Training & Development

Collaboration with College of West Anglia (Wisbech Campus). At least 20 % of working hours dedicated to college‑based learning leading to nationally recognised qualifications, including Level 3 Extended Diploma in Machining.

Entry Requirements
  • GCSEs:
    Five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths, English and a Science or Engineering subject.
  • Or one year full‑time further education achieving Performing Engineering Operations, Level 2 (6 units) with Maths and English at level 2.
  • A‑Levels not required.
  • Equivalent academic qualifications welcome; predicted grades accepted.
Future Opportunities

Upon successful completion, typically offered a position within Caterpillar with long‑term progression potential. Many former apprentices occupy senior management roles.
