The Role

Step into a pivotal role at the heart of our operations as an Assistant Scheduler in Whittlesey. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring our potato supply flows seamlessly to our manufacturing sites, delivering the right volumes and quality to keep production moving. This isn’t just about scheduling - it’s about optimising efficiency, driving cost‑effective solutions, and fostering strong relationships across internal teams and with our growers and hauliers.

Reporting into: Potato Supply & Operations Manager

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Coordinate daily operations:
    Oversee the end‑to‑end scheduling and logistics of potato deliveries, keeping everything running smoothly.
  • Plan ahead:
    Develop flexible supply plans that respond to changing production needs and market dynamics.
  • Ensure quality and consistency:
    Validate tonnage and quality, providing clear updates to stakeholders.
  • Drive efficiency:
    Make strategic decisions that optimise costs while maintaining exceptional service standards.
  • Respond with agility:
    Manage ad hoc sampling requests with precision, keeping food safety and accuracy front of mind.
  • Build strong relationships:
    Collaborate closely with growers, hauliers, field teams, and site manufacturing to ensure seamless supply.
  • Support contracts:
    Work alongside our administration team to ensure grower contracts are approved and schedules executed flawlessly.
  • Collaborate and innovate:
    Partner across agriculture, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to continuously improve operations.
  • Embrace flexibility:
    Provide scheduling coverage one in three weekends, contributing to our 24/7 operational excellence.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
  • Experience & knowledge:
    Ideally in supply management within fast‑moving or food manufacturing environments; understanding of potato production or commercial produce markets is a bonus.
  • Skills & attributes:
  • Clear, confident communicator, able to present plans and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organised, self‑motivated, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and thrives under pressure in a 24/7 operation.
  • Strong decision‑making, problem‑solving, and process improvement mindset.
  • Relationship‑builder who can inspire confidence across a wide network of partners.
  • Full driving licence and comfortable driving pick‑up trucks.
  • Technical expertise:
    Proficient in administration systems, Excel, and Power BI.

With about 400 employees on site, we’re one of our largest plants across the GB business. Our Whittlesey plant is where we make our famous French Fries as well as our chilled products, such as our Shake Shake Fries.
