Job Summary

Embark on an exciting and meaningful career journey as a School Nurse, where every day brings the opportunity to make a real difference. This position involves working closely with children, young people, and their families, supporting their health, development, and overall wellbeing. The successful candidate will enroll in the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN School Nurse) programme starting in January 2027, gaining comprehensive academic and practical training through Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).

Please be aware that this post covers placements across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area. Interviews will be held on 29.07.2026 and 30.07.2026; secondment may be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Attend all educational sessions directed by the University and submit assignments promptly to meet objectives.
  • Maintain close liaison with the Practice Assessor throughout the course, agreeing on a clinical learning program that supports theoretical learning.
  • Identify and highlight areas of concern regarding progress and development, addressing them before they become problematic.
  • Understand the wider determinants of health and work to address health inequalities across diverse communities.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual/family‑focused programmes of care under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor and Assessor, working in partnership with other agencies.
  • Maintain professional record‑keeping standards in line with Trust policy and NMC standards.
  • Participate in the Healthy Child Programme, developing autonomy and taking responsibility for care within competency limits.
  • Demonstrate safeguarding skills in relation to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), responding appropriately and accessing training and supervision as required.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with families and other professionals in a multi‑agency environment.
  • Report absence and sickness promptly and arrange regular clinical supervision with the Practice Assessor and Practice Lead.
  • Adhere to the NMC Code, Trust values, and all relevant policies, including confidentiality, data protection, risk assessment, infection control, and mandatory training.
Qualifications & Training
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration on Part 1 or 2 of the register.
  • Eligible to register as a newly qualified nurse or midwife before the course start date and meet ARU entry requirements.
Desirable
  • Practice Assessor qualification or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and robust decision‑making skills.
Person Specification Essential
  • Ability to work effectively with children and young people and their families, delivering holistic, evidence‑based care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and in partnership with other agencies.
  • Awareness of current legislation, national guidance, and local policies relevant to the Healthy Child Programme.
  • Good communication skills, including verbal, written, and IT abilities.
  • Understanding of health and safety guidelines, risk assessment, and safe working practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding, awareness of legislation, and understanding of safeguarding issues.
Desirable
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Robust decision‑making skills.
