Sue Ryder is dedicated to supporting people at the end of life and those experiencing grief, ensuring no one faces dying or grief alone.
About usSue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough. We support people aged 18 and over living with life‑limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease. Our expert team combines specialist medical care for pain and symptom management with emotional, practical and spiritual support. Our Wellbeing and Community Support team is also available to listen.
We also operate a Hospice at Home service, available seven days a week, providing care to patients who wish to be cared for at home at the end of their life.
About the RoleIn palliative care, no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit offers the unique opportunity to care for patients with a variety of conditions and symptoms. Your role will involve providing compassionate, holistic care—including emotional, psychological and spiritual support—to both patients and their families. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Specialty Doctors, therapy staff, volunteers and other MDT members, working as a 24/7 service.
Duties- Provide support, leadership, recognition and supervision to junior staff members.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised clinical care for service users.
- Use evidence‑based practice to develop and maintain high‑quality care.
- Ensure that the team provides all care in line with the care plan.
- Help to organise admission and discharge of service users.
You will have experience in Palliative and End‑of‑Life Care, either from a hospice, high‑dependency unit or oncology service. You are genuinely motivated to improve the lives of people with life‑limiting conditions and bring empathy, skill and motivation to the role.
Essential Criteria- NMC registration and experience delivering inclusive patient care.
- Ability to assess, plan and deliver care with appropriate adjustments.
- Skilled in accessible documentation and patient communication.
- Commitment to upholding patients’ dignity, rights and autonomy.
