Regulatory Officer - 32660 at Environment Agency
The Environment Agency invites applications for a Regulatory Officer who will regulate industrial installations in Lincolnshire, ensuring compliance with environmental and health & safety legislation. The role includes incident management duties with potential out‑of‑hours standby.
Responsibilities- Conduct compliance assessments at industrial sites such as landfill, biowaste, incineration, food & drink, and hazardous waste.
- Validate permit compliance and perform complex risk assessments of operators’ ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resource use.
- Set conditions for continued site operation and enforce legislation where non‑compliance occurs.
- Respond to and investigate incidents, ensuring preventive and protective actions are implemented.
- Use influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice and engage with senior industry, local community and stakeholder groups.
- Participate in incident response duties and training as required.
- Support inter‑agency work with the Health & Safety Executive on COMAH regulated sites.
- Regulatory or industrial experience in any of the sectors mentioned, with demonstrated operational knowledge of waste or industry.
- Proactive, self‑motivated communicator with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Technical knowledge of environmental management systems, auditing and root‑cause analysis (preferred).
- Ability to interpret environmental monitoring and performance data.
- Independently manage multiple demands and deliver outcomes.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline; membership of a relevant professional organisation is a plus.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for operational site visits.
Based at either the Kettering or Peterborough office in Lincolnshire. Flexible working with site visits and home‑working. Full‑time; flexible patterns considered.
