Responsibilities
  • Work as a team and utilize expertise as a dental assistant in assisting the dentist in all clinical procedures, effectively preparing the operatory with materials and instruments for dental procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date material knowledge as provided by manufacturers.
  • Properly prepare dental restorative materials in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare necessary solutions on a daily/weekly basis required for dental use.
  • Appropriately maintain state equipment and instruments through lubrication, sterilization, and daily cleaning.
  • Accurately expose and file digital x‑rays.
  • Accurately document records as instructed by the dentist and the CHD Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Handle behavior‐management cases as dictated by the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Accurately enter patient information into the approved electronic health record.
  • Schedule clinic appointments in Eaglesoft, register clients in HMS, and control the flow of dental clinic patients and clinic schedules.
  • Inform the public of clinic procedures, CHD services, and refer to other agencies as needed in a courteous and accurate manner.
  • Travel to all clinics as requested.
  • Comply with security procedure guidelines.
  • Adhere to uniformity of dental procedures countywide as approved by the Dental Service Manager.
  • Instruct patients/parents (guardians) in oral hygiene using appropriate aids.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of dental procedures, expanded functions, dental materials, dental terminology, and behavior management.
  • Knowledge of electronic records and digital radiographs.
  • Skills in preparation of dental materials, sterilization and infection control, and equipment maintenance.
  • Skills in delivery of expanded functions, record keeping, computer use, and efficient patient flow.
  • Ability to communicate with children, parents, and co‑workers.
  • Ability to learn insurance procedures.
  • Ability to work well with others, resolve conflicts professionally, and serve the Pinellas County area.
  • Ability to drive to satellite clinics.
Qualifications
  • Expanded functions certificate or at least 1 year of dental clinical experience per Florida Statutes, Section 466.024(6).
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience as an EFDA.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with behavior management or assisting a dentist in the use of nitrous oxide.
Where You Will Work

This position is available in the Dental Program of Clinical Health Services at the St. Petersburg Dental Clinic in Pinellas County, FL, and will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Dentist. The position requires local travel and some possible weekend and evening hours.
