Position: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) - Acute care- Southside Medical Center - PRN

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) – Acute Care, Southside Medical Center, PRN

Join the Bon Secours Mercy Health team as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant in the acute care setting at Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA. This PRN (as needed) position requires availability for two weekend days per month plus at least one holiday per year (Saturday and/or Sunday; 7 AM – 3 PM), paid at a flat rate.

  • Prior acute care experience highly preferred.

Primary Function / General Purpose Of Position: The incumbent shall provide therapeutic interventions under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, working within a team, and adhere to professional standards. The incumbent maintains accountability for performance improvement activities, problem solving, and productivity.

Employment Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an AOTA approved Associate’s program or equivalent with current state license or certification.
  • Experience working with adult and geriatric populations desirable.
  • Experience in acute care setting desirable but not required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within ninety days of orientation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide age-appropriate therapeutic interventions as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment.
  • Document the course of patient care in the electronic medical record, including progress and continuing need for treatment.
  • Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources that support continued functional independence, documenting accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist to develop new methods of delivering education to patients and families.
  • Participate in discharge planning as part of the interdisciplinary team.
