Job Description
The counselor will provide direct therapeutic support to students within the school environment. Clinicians will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents to address emotional, behavioral, and social challenges that impact a student’s ability to learn. This role includes individual and group interventions, crisis de-escalation, skill-building, and treatment planning support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide daily or weekly therapeutic interventions to assigned students
- Implement individualized treatment plans under licensed supervision
- Support students in areas such as emotional regulation, focus, behavior management, and coping skills
- Document clinical notes daily in EHR system
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to reinforce behavior strategies
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings as needed
- Communicate progress with parents/guardians and the clinical supervisor
- Assist with reauthorizations and quarterly treatment plan updates
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and professional boundaries at all times
Required:
- Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related human services field
- Active Virginia Board of Counseling registration as a Resident in Counseling or Virginia Board of Social Work registration as a Supervisee in Social Work OR
- Must meet Virginia DMAS qualifications for QMHP-C, including:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field OR
- Equivalent graduate-level education
- Experience working with children or adolescents
- Strong skills in communication, organization, and rapport building
- Ability to work independently within a school environment
- Must pass background checks and TB screening
Preferred:
- Experience in school-based, community-based, or outpatient mental health
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
- Experience with TDT, skill-building, or behavior support
- Familiarity with Therapy Notes or other EHR systems
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
