We have a new opening for a Recreational Therapist Assistant. Responsibilities include providing ancillary therapy assessments and consults, conducting group activity therapy sessions, carrying a caseload, developing and implementing therapeutic activity sessions, completing documentation, and assisting in program strategy development and outcome evaluation. The assistant will collaborate with medical, nursing, and program staff, participate in referral development, cosign therapy notes, train and orient new activity therapists, support staff development, participate in performance improvement committees, assist in recruiting and supervising student interns, perform continuous quality improvement activities, order supplies, maintain the environment of care, and perform other duties as assigned.

Flexible availability is required.

Position Requirements:

• Certified or eligible for certification as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
• HWC certification preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and certification.
• One to two years of prior experience preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services.
• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
• Good communication skills; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Basic clerical skills and experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.).
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to problem-solving and accept feedback when required.
• Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
• Ability to troubleshoot and work cooperatively on a multidisciplinary activity therapy team.
• Ability to multitask and independently manage time efficiently.
