POSITION SUMMARY
The Machinist position will analyze specifications, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTo accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Adhere to safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program.
- Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, computer-aided design (CAD) files, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files, and G- and M-code.
- Display a working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Set up, operate, monitor, and disassemble manual machines.
- Set up, program, operate, monitor, and disassemble computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.
- Adjust machine setup, tools, coordinates, and/or program to make a quality part.
- Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and work pieces.
- Build fixtures for machining parts.
- Set and monitor the feed and speed of machines.
- Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications and maintain tolerances.
- Use gauges and measuring instruments to ensure parts meet tolerance requirements.
- Measure and examine completed parts for defects.
- Smooth the surfaces of parts or products to specifications.
- Present finished work pieces to customers and make modifications, if needed.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
To be considered for this role you must be able to meet the following qualifications/expectations:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Show a basic understanding of computer operations/skills
- Completion of the Machinist Apprenticeship Program or equivalent years of Machinist experience.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening
- Lift, push & pull 10 to 50 lbs.
- Wear department required, employer provided, personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Be able to regularly stand and move throughout the department and shift
- Mechanical aptitude and prior industrial experience a plus
