Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183 bed acute care and residential facility. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral health services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military.

We have a new opening for a Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for ensuring the provision of quality nursing care to assigned groups of patients/residents through utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, and relevant organizational/departmental/unit policies and procedures. Scope of responsibilities include the immediate supervision and coaching/mentoring of assisting personnel in the performance of delegated direct/indirect nursing care activities and unit maintenance task.

Demonstrates behaviors reflective of the mission and core values of Poplar Springs Hospital as well as those expected of all nurses functioning at a competent level of practice in the professional role. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hours will vary and applicants need to have flexibility with his/her availability.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

Licensure/Certification /Registration
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • CPR Preferred (offered on-site)
  • Handle With Care Preferred (offered on-site)
Education/Experience
  • Education, experience and/or training in working with patient population of unit of assignment is required either prior to employment or during an initial employment period
General Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities (22

    VAC
    42-11-380, pg. 43)
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning
