Crane Operator

Job Summary

Load/unload or otherwise move inventory, through the use of overhead crane or other material handling equipment as specified according to work orders and by directive of supervisor. The crane operator operates traveling or stationary overhead crane (cab or ground controlled) to lift, move, and position loads such as machinery, equipment, products, and solid or bulk materials. Operate mechanical boom and cable or tower and cable equipment to lift and move materials, machines, or products in many directions.

Stand or sit (stationary position), walk (move, traverse), use hand/fingers to handle or feel, climb (stairs/ladders) or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk/hear, see, pushing or pulling, and reaching. Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
• Manipulates or depresses crane controls such as pedals, levers, and buttons to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
• Uses hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, electromagnet, or bucket as load requires.
• Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
• Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
• Logs and reports inventory location changes according to specified procedure.
• Assembles customer orders according to work orders.
• Logs and tags inventory received according to specified procedure.
• Records pertinent material information onto work orders or other forms as specified by management.

• One year certificate or 3-6 months experience required.
• Must possess proficient problem‑solving, technical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Safety knowledge and adherence.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in the English language.
