About the PositionThe Controller role at Bay Harbor Yacht Club offers the opportunity to take on a key leadership position within a premier hospitality organization. Working closely with the CFO, this role allows you to apply your accounting expertise to financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and member account management while supporting the Club’s overall success. You’ll have the chance to work with a skilled team, collaborate across departments, and contribute directly to the Club’s financial health.

- Assists Accounting Manager to manage and conduct internal and external auditing programs to ensure records are accurately maintained and policies are followed.
- Assists CFO and Accounting Manager with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Prepare monthly committee and board reports.
- Assist with the annual budget process.
- Monitor and analyze monthly inventories for food, beverage and retail merchandise.
- Maintain and update fixed asset software with asset updates and project accounting.
- Process and post billings related to banquets, member events and other member activities, making necessary adjustments to member accounts.
- Prepare and send monthly member statements.
- Process member payments and prepare bank deposits.
- Monitor accounts receivable and take action according to club policies and procedures; answer member questions regarding statements.
- Manage the club management software, assist with training, and help with upgrades and enhancements.
- Process biweekly payroll, including reviewing timesheets, processing tip pool, employee purchases, uploading 401(k) transactions, and communicating with HR on payroll related items.
- Work with the Membership Department to track and account for incoming and resigning members and other reporting needs.
- Oversee work performed by other members of the accounting team.
- Maintain procedures for confidentiality of club information and safeguarding club assets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university.
- Three to five years of professional accounting experience.
- Previous payroll processing experience preferred.
- Previous experience working in the hospitality industry desired.
- High level of ethics and trustworthiness.
- Strong calculation skills for bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, and statistical analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Experience with financial and accounting software applications.
- Knowledge of federal and state accounting laws and practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
