Pay Range

$63,576 - $66,753 per year

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work with a State of Michigan license.
  • Knowledge and experience in behavioral intervention with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental illness using evidence-based practices.
  • Experience working with adults is essential; preferably two years providing services to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental illness.
  • Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are valued.
Summary of Responsibilities

The Adult Behavior Specialist (ABS) is a member of the Clinical Team responsible for completing behavioral assessments, developing positive support plans, and providing counseling and training to clients and staff.

Essential Job Functions
  • Evaluates individual’s psychological and behavioral needs.
  • Develops and monitors behavioral support and treatment plans according to MDHHS Technical Requirements.
  • Participates in Plans of Service meetings and the Behavioral Treatment Committee.
  • Responds to psychological concerns for individuals, providers and supervisors.
  • Advises staff in implementation of approved behavioral plans.
  • Promotes therapeutic environments and recommends specific treatment plans.
  • Provides complete and timely documentation for the electronic health record.
  • Provides community education to facilitate public awareness of behavioral health issues.
  • Learns new treatment methods through self-study, research, and training.
  • Participates in after-hours emergency coverage and service.
  • Provides backup coverage for intake assessments and assists supervisor with in-service training.
  • Consults with organizational psychiatrists as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, lift up to 25 pounds, stretch/reach, hear, see, and drive a vehicle. Requires completion of de-escalation techniques training.

Other Requirements
  • Must be current in all applicable trainings provided by NCCMH.
  • Must have own phone and internet for communication.
  • Must be able to visit clients in their residence or day program.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • May transport clients in organization vehicles and provide own transportation for agency duties.
  • Assignments may be outside the six counties and involve irregular hours.
  • Must work within guidelines of the code of conduct and regulatory compliance plan.
  • Supports recovery-based, person-centered, culturally competent service delivery philosophy.
  • Adheres to applicable policies and procedures of the Department of Community Mental Health and other agencies.
