Assistant Retail Store Manager – Goodwill Northern Michigan
Under the direction of the Retail Store Manager, the Assistant Retail Store Manager supports day‑to‑day operations of the thrift store, ensuring sales goals are met or exceeded, the store is organized, and customers receive excellent service. The role supervises a team of employees, manages inventory, and ensures adherence to Goodwill Northern Michigan’s policies and procedures.
Essential Functions- Review and approve payroll, create and publish schedules.
- Handle cash and perform reconciliations.
- Coach team members.
- Document and administer corrective action as needed.
- Receive and process donations.
- Operate and supervise forklifts, pallet jacks, and trash compactors.
- Operate and supervise a point‑of‑sale system.
- Provide reliable transportation to make bank deposits and for emergency call‑ins.
- Support Goodwill’s mission and vision.
- Perform work safely by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
- Interact professionally with team members, clients, and customers.
- Respect diversity, including individuals experiencing homelessness and those with disabilities.
- Assist in managing daily operations: opening/closing, cash management, cleanliness, organization, and stocking.
- Recruit, train, supervise a team, providing coaching, feedback, and corrective action.
- Apply sales strategies to meet or exceed sales goals, including production and merchandising.
- Manage inventory: order and receive new merchandise, price items, and ensure proper donation processing.
- Ensure compliance with Goodwill Northern Michigan’s policies and procedures, including safety, security, personnel, customer‑service standards, and ethics.
- Maintain accurate records: financial reports, employee schedules, training documentation, inventory counts.
- Foster a positive work environment that values teamwork, communication, and collaboration.
- Provide management assistance to other locations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or equivalent (college degree preferred).
- At least 2 years of retail management experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, providing coaching and feedback.
- Ability to hold team members accountable for meeting goals and following policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of retail sales and merchandising strategies.
- Ability to manage inventory and analyze sales data.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and point‑of‑sale systems.
- Willngness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to cover other store locations as needed.
- Current valid driver’s license without restrictions.
- Work environment can be hectic with occasional high stress and tight deadlines.
- Requires walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and turning throughout the shift.
- Medium lifting (20-50 pounds) with occasional heavy lifting (50-100 pounds).
Location:

Salary: $18,000 - $64,200 per year
