Job Description
Brown Motors is expanding its service operation and hiring a Certified Ford Technician to support a growing Ford retail, fleet, and commercial business. Located in Petoskey, Michigan, Brown Motors has served the community since 1898 and recently completed a 15,000 sq ft expansion that includes new retail and commercial service bays, expanded parts capacity, an upgraded tool room, and modern technician facilities.
This role is ideal for Ford-certified technicians, including Master Certified technicians, as well as experienced Ford techs who consistently deliver high-quality diagnostic and repair work. Technicians work in a modern, well-equipped environment with consistent workflow, fair dispatch, and leadership focused on long-term success.
Guaranteed pay is provided during the onboarding and ramp-up period, allowing new technicians to transition confidently while learning shop processes and building efficiency. Work is dispatched fairly and consistently with a focus on productivity and technician success.
The schedule is Monday through Friday with some Saturdays as needed. No Sundays. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Compensation Overview
Compensation is based on certification level and experience and is paid on a flat rate structure, supplemented by performance bonuses and specialty work premiums.
Flat Rate Pay by Certification Level
Level I: $25.73
Level II: $28.38
Level III: $29.97
Master: $34.27
Senior Master: $36.35
Performance Bonuses
46–50 flat rate hours: $1.75 per hour
50.1–55 hours: $3.00 per hour
55.1–60 hours: $4.00 per hour
Over 60.1 hours: $6.00 per hour
Heavy Truck Premium
Additional $2.00 per flat rate hour for heavy-duty and commercial truck work
Training and Technician Support
All training is paid
Transportation, meals, and lodging covered for offsite training
$100 prescription safety glasses allowance every five years
$50 annual boot allowance
Flat rate pay on all warranty repairs

- Perform maintenance and repair work efficiently and accurately in accordance with Ford and dealership standards
- Diagnose and repair Ford vehicle systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, HVAC, and related systems
- Troubleshoot concerns and determine root cause using proper diagnostic procedures and tools
- Provide accurate labor and time estimates for recommended additional repairs
- Communicate repair findings clearly with service advisors to support transparent customer communication
- Inspect and test vehicles, documenting findings to ensure necessary repairs are identified and completed
- Maintain and properly use dealership tools and equipment in a safe and organized manner
- Maintain Ford certification through required training and ongoing technical education
- Accurately record job times and parts usage using dealership management systems
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Ford certification preferred, with ASE and additional manufacturer certifications strongly valued
- Proven experience diagnosing and repairing Ford vehicles
- Proficiency with modern automotive technologies and advanced diagnostic tools
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, process‑driven shop environment
- Professional attitude with a commitment to quality workmanship and teamwork
