Join to apply for the Adjunct Instructor - Sociology role at Inside Higher Ed. The Humanities, Communication, and Social Sciences department seeks an adjunct faculty position in Sociology at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC). The School of Arts and Science seeks to be the premier choice in the region for students seeking applied associate degrees as well as transfer degrees. The successful candidate will provide students with a strong foundation in Sociology paired with exceptional teaching skills.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the most effective teaching and learning research in lesson planning and content delivery. This candidate will demonstrate collegiality, flexibility, and leadership within the department, school, and college. The candidate must be able to teach both on campus & online courses and be a Wisconsin state resident.
Under direct supervision of the associate dean, the primary responsibility is providing instruction to students enrolled in a variety of Sociology courses. Classes may include (but are not limited to):
Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Diversity Studies, Multicultural America. Pay will vary by course.
- Deliver high-quality instruction to a range of program students
- Integrate technology into teaching of course material
- Contribute to program development, curriculum design, and program assessment
- Collaborate with a variety of faculty, staff, and students using strong communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrate a strong foundation in pedagogy
- Use feedback as a developmental tool for growth around instructional effectiveness and collegiality
- Effective at teaching in multiple formats (face-to-face, hybrid, internet)
- Maintain positive relationships within the Liberal Arts programs and the various occupational programs at WCTC
- Master’s Degree in Sociology or a Master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate level credits in Sociology
- At least one year of post-secondary teaching experience required as the lead instructor (not TA work)
- Post-secondary experience in designing, planning, and implementing alternative delivery formats (internet, accelerated, hybrid)
- Experience in CANVAS or similar learning management system
- Teaching experience, work experience or experience developing curriculum in the area of international or diversity studies (desired)
- Online teaching experience required
