Description
Perform technical and procedural duties in the cataloging, circulation, acquisition, and/or reference areas of the library. Work involved is of a responsible, technical nature, requiring some knowledge of library systems, procedures and references and the use of online information systems. The position works independently and exercises some judgment and initiative. Occasionally assist patrons with informational needs and interpret library policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of library classification systems and practices, preferably the Library of Congress system.
- Familiarity with the cataloging, acquisition, circulation and reference areas of a library.
- Familiarity with an Integrated Library System (ILS).
- Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written and listening
- Strong customer service skills, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds to present technical information to students, instructors, staff, and the public.
- Data entry skills
- Ability to manage time and organize work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and/or databases
- Two years of formal education beyond high school with course work in Library Science or related field.
- One year of recent library experience, preferably at the technical/paraprofessional level
This position supports the Library department, and is available to start on before January 30th.
This is a casual position (20 hours/week) with flexible start times. Benefits are not included.
