Access Services Representative 2 - Part Time
Job Summary
The Access Services Representative 2 obtains current and accurate demographics and insurance information in order to register patients, verify insurance benefits, negotiate and collect patient financial responsibilities. They cross‑train and work in all areas as assigned and serve as a mentor or trainer for peers.
Essential Functions- Conduct patient interviews to obtain demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, pre‑certification and billing.
- Understand patient flow processes in each area.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to promote teamwork and improve revenue cycle functions and patient experience.
- Interact with other areas and departments regarding patient delays, schedule changes intra/interdepartmentally.
- Verify patient eligibility for insurance coverage and appropriate benefit levels.
- Calculate and collect patient liability according to policy, advise patients of deposit requirements, and negotiate payment arrangements.
- Perform cashiering responsibilities as per established policies.
- Assist patients to nursing units by providing directions, escort, or medical mobility assistance when applicable.
- Escalate service issues to management when necessary.
- Adhere to compliance with order validation, cash policy requirements, government payer requirements, and patient safety requirements for identification.
- Conduct formal, documented training and serve as a resource to others.
- Accept new responsibilities as identified by leadership, performing revenue cycle duties at multiple locations.
- 2 years of healthcare or customer service experience (or education equivalency).
- Good listening, interpersonal and communication skills, and professional telephone etiquette.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in highly stressful environments.
- Empathy and ability to communicate with patients and families during traumatic events.
- Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities effectively and organized.
- Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigation skills.
- Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
