Position: Controller I

Position Summary

As the Division Controller, you'll partner and collaborate closely with Division Leadership and Corporate Finance teams to drive operational and financial excellence. Your role involves leading the administrative, risk management, financial planning, accounting, and budgeting functions for the division.

Position Details
  • Partner with Division Leaders to set and implement division objectives aligned with corporate goals.
  • Provide consultation and training to division and operational leaders on financial matters.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop and meet budgets, prepare expense forecasts, and track spending against budgets.
  • Research and interpret accounting policy, ensuring compliance with corporate policy, state and federal laws, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Manage processes to support customer and subcontractor relationships and negotiate favorable contract terms.
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting systems, operations, and internal controls.
  • Optimize business efficiencies through process improvements related to accounting and administrative operations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial and operations data to support job cost management, forecasting, and decision‑making.
  • Support staff in effectively using ERP and related systems for project planning and financial management.
  • Oversee business compliance, including maintenance of local business licenses, management of insurance and bonding matters, oversight of union labor agreements, and participation in annual independent audits.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of in‑role experience in a construction senior‑level finance or accounting role and/or
  • Eligible internal applicant within the Southland and Brandt divisions.
  • 10+ years of experience showing consistent career progression and tenure in the role.
  • CPA license preferred, but not required.
  • Financial acumen: deep understanding of accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, and risk management; ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
  • Leadership and collaboration: ability to lead and collaborate with cross‑functional teams, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking: identify opportunities for improvement, anticipate challenges, and develop proactive solutions aligned with corporate goals.
  • Problem‑solving skills: analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions.
  • Attention to detail: meticulous eye for accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Change management: communicate rationale for change, address resistance, and facilitate smooth transitions.
  • Continuous learning: commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry trends and regulatory changes.
