Primary Purpose
Serve as the chief administrator in the absence of the Superintendent, provide day‑to‑day leadership for the School District, represent the Superintendent as appropriate at official school and community functions, inform the Superintendent of changes in trends, laws, rules, or regulations, and provide reports to the Superintendent of his/her activities and as directed. Direct, plan, evaluate, and provide leadership for departmental areas including technology, human resources, health and safety, and communications.
Assume responsibility for the budget development and expenditures of departments supervised. Provide leadership for all central office areas assigned.
Major Responsibilities
Serve as the acting chief administrator of the district in cases of the Superintendent's absence from the district for an extended period of time.Support the Superintendent in the continuous review and revision of the district’s strategic plan and in concurrent efforts to measure progress toward its attainment.Maintain a commitment to the district mission; model district expectations through personal leadership and example; and actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals.Utilize effective communication and collaboration skills between and among various areas of the organization to maximize service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction in assigned area of responsibility; demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in relating to staff, the Board of Trustees, and community members.Be informed about all aspects of the instructional program and ensure that there is a continuous focus on improving student academic performance; work with the staff, board, and community to plan curriculum; develop, evaluate, and revise the district improvement plan annually with the assistance of the district-level committee; prepare reports and assist the board in evaluating the effectiveness of school programs.Be informed of developments in state, federal, and local laws and changes in public policy affecting education; develop administrative procedures and regulations to manage school operations and implement policies adopted by the board; accurately prepare and submit in a timely manner.Oversee development of policy and administrative procedures related to student instruction and campus operations, including: grading policies, student handbook, scheduling, etc.Oversee all aspects of the district’s human resources department.Oversee all aspects of the district’s technology department.Oversee all aspects of the district’s department of support services.Oversee all aspects of the district’s communication department.Oversee all aspects of the district’s department of health and safety.Recommend, hire, orient, train, and evaluate department employees directly or indirectly through supervisory staff; implement and monitor effective human resource practices.Approve all departmental expenditures; prepare and monitor the departmental budgets.Define program needs to be addressed through facility and budget planning; develop annual operating budget recommendations for assigned units and functions that are aligned with district goals and documented program needs; demonstrate responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets.Ensure that departmental activities are coordinated with other district offices and administrators; represent the department as may be required in meetings and other outside activities.Maintain a current knowledge of state and federal laws, policies and guidelines.Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications
Master’s degree in education or educational administration. Valid Texas administrator’s certificate. Five (5) years of successful experience as a campus and/or central office leader.
