Join the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) Child Support Division (CSD) in our mission to encourage responsible parenting by promoting the involvement of both parents in their children’s lives and ensuring that children in Texas receive the support they need and deserve.
Responsibilities- Represent the State of Texas in judicial and administrative family law proceedings to establish paternity, obtain court orders for financial support and health care coverage for children, and enforce and modify child support orders.
- Represent the State of Texas in administrative hearings.
- Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program.
- Develop and deliver training.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Attend work regularly in compliance with the agreed‑upon work schedule.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
- Education:
Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. - Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code.
- Skill in legal writing, mediation, negotiation, courtroom advocacy, legal research, and use of a personal computer for word‑processing and data entry.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication; sound judgment; effective decision making.
- Ability to receive and respond to constructive feedback.
- Work cooperatively in a professional office environment; provide excellent customer service.
- Work in person at assigned OAG work location; comply with time‑keeping and in‑person requirements.
- Arrange personal transportation for business‑related travel.
- Work more than 40 hours as needed in compliance with FLSA.
- Lift and relocate up to 30 lbs.
- Travel (including overnight) up to 25% of the time.
- One year of full‑time experience as a licensed attorney in a related field.
- One additional year of full‑time experience as a licensed attorney.
- One additional year of full‑time experience as a licensed attorney.
- Two years’ experience handling Family Law cases.
- Jury trial experience.
- Experience handling a high‑volume legal practice.
- Proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking).
