ResponsibilitiesAs a Full Time Heavy Equipment Operator with the City of Pharr, you will play a vital role in efficiently maintaining and enhancing the city's infrastructure. Your primary responsibility will be to operate a utility trailer transport while occasionally managing smaller equipment such as shredders and slope mowers. You’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills on a diverse range of machinery, including dozers, front‑end loaders, motor graders, maintainers, bucket trucks, backhoes, low‑boys, flatbeds, pavers, rollers, forklifts, vector trucks, and street sweepers (both vacuum and mechanical).
This position is perfect for those who thrive in a hands‑on environment and enjoy the challenge of problem‑solving. Additionally, you will perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the effective operation of essential city services.
To excel as a Full Time Heavy Equipment Operator at the City of Pharr, candidates must possess a comprehensive understanding of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for operating various equipment. A solid grasp of the laws and ordinances regulating vehicle operation is crucial, along with knowledge of effective traffic and highway safety rules. Successful operators should also demonstrate expertise in the operation of medium construction equipment and be skilled in determining how systems function and how changes in conditions may impact outcomes.
The ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments, as well as to service automotive equipment, is essential. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient physical strength to carry out demanding labor tasks efficiently and safely. Must pass a thorough criminal background check due to the sensitivity of the information handled by this position.
