Position: Crane Operator (Certified)

A crane operator is a construction worker responsible for safely operating a crane to lift, move, and position heavy materials or equipment at construction sites, industrial facilities, or other work areas. The operator performs pre‑shift inspections, monitors load weights, communicates with ground crew, and ensures all safety protocols are followed while maneuvering the crane to precisely place loads as directed. The employee properly operates large equipment on operational projects and works safely as part of a team under the supervision of a foreman or supervisor.

Job Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a crane while maintaining communication with the ground crew for safe and efficient rigging and unrigging.
  • Responsible for using lattice boom crawler crane and rough terrain telescopic crane to hoist and move materials, perform pre‑operation inspection, rigging and assigned crane operations.
  • Ability to perform pre‑operational inspections including Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA), calculating cranes' capabilities and weight to ensure you have the proper equipment for rigging and hoisting.
  • Understanding the crane's load chart, notes and warnings and being able to calculate or determine the crane's actual net capacity for all possible configurations of the machine.
  • Perform lifts necessary for construction of bridge work to include cap, column, deck beams, etc., and review rigging equipment prior to using.
  • Knowledge in reviewing critical lift plane and performing critical lifts in accordance with lift plan.
  • Perform inspection and complete required paperwork/ documentation.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, equipment, workers, and other objects which may pose a hazard.
  • Competent in completing all necessary pre‑job paperwork as well as log book following the completion of the job.
  • Observe all company and customer policies and safety requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Five to Seven years of hands‑on experience in the related field / critical lifts (beams, formwork, etc.).
  • NCCCO Certification a must:
    Telescopic Boom Swing Cab (TLL), TB75, LBCR, LBCW, Lattice Boom Crawler.
  • Knowledge of road construction equipment and repair.
  • Knowledge of equipment parts, equipment body and cost.
  • Must have familiarity with construction equipment and machinery, including their maintenance requirements.
  • Experience in rough terrain crane and crawler > 110 tons.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills are essential with the ability to work methodically and meet deadlines. Employee will work nights and weekends with a variety of operating hours.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver License.
  • Able to successfully complete all required pre‑hire tests and verifications, which may include pre‑employment drug testing, reference & criminal background checks and MVR review.
Additional Information

The employee assumes responsibility and is presumed to know the routine work details and performance standards of the job and to perform assigned tasks without appreciable advice from Manager or Foreman. Employee may be subject to long hours, weekend and holiday work. Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.

Physical Demands
  • Constantly operate a vehicle.
  • Position is a 24/7 emergency service provider; the position will require on‑call/storm related night and weekend work.
  • Must be able to detect errors in systems and in writing.
  • Constantly works in the field, environment with high movement.
  • Exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 30 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly; requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Frequently ascends/descends a ladder to function/process daily tasks.
  • Face to face contact with internal customers and traveling to location is necessary.
  • Position requires the operation of a motor vehicle, driving to and from locations using bodily movement and climbing to and from vehicle.
