Fractional Controller - Oil and Gas Midstream

Company Description Anexus CFO is seeking an experienced Controller with oil and gas midstream accounting experience to provide financial leadership and accounting oversight for a growing client portfolio. The initial assignment will support a single midstream energy client full-time for 2-3 months, with opportunities to work with additional clients as that client is fully onboarded. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys building processes, solving operational challenges, and serving as a trusted advisor to management teams.

The position offers flexibility, exposure to a variety of businesses, and the opportunity to work closely with CFOs, owners, executives, lenders, auditors, and investors.

Role Description The Fractional Controller – Oil and Gas Midstream will provide part-time, remote controllership support to midstream energy clients, focusing on accurate, timely financial reporting and strong control environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing the general ledger, managing monthly close and reconciliations, and preparing financial statements and management reports. The role will set up and refine accounting processes for midstream assets, including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and project accounting for pipelines, processing, and related infrastructure.

The individual will collaborate with client leadership and the Anexus CFO team to support budgeting and forecasting, ensure compliance with relevant industry and tax requirements, and address audit and governance needs. This position requires proactive communication with multiple stakeholders and the ability to work independently in a remote, fractional engagement model.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of oil and gas midstream operations, cost structures, and industry-specific accounting and compliance considerations.
• Strong accounting and controllership skills, including general ledger management, monthly close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management for capital-intensive businesses.
• Familiarity with governance, internal controls, audit readiness, and basic legal and tax triage in a corporate environment.
• Proficiency with modern midstream accounting and ERP software, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools.
• Ability to work remotely with multiple clients, manage priorities, and communicate clearly with founders and investors.
• Relevant certification or education such as CPA, CMA, or a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
