The Pennoni Honors College at Drexel University is a place of innovation, creativity, and intellectual exchange. There are many different units within the Pennoni Honors College which offer a range and depth of offerings unique among Honors Colleges in the country. Involvement with the College helps students become the best they can be: broadly educated, socially engaged, and culturally and intellectually fulfilled.
A core branch of the Pennoni Honors College is the Honors Program. The Honors Program Community is comprised of active and curious undergraduate learners who represent nearly every major and discipline at Drexel University. Through discussion-based courses, the Honors Program allows students to explore diverse topics and perspectives while meeting faculty and students outside of their majors and academic concentrations.
Job Summary
The Pennoni Honors College invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach in the Honors Program in the Academic Year. Available Honors courses include Honors Colloquia and Seminar courses which are customizable to the candidate's degree field and area of expertise. The Honors Program aims to offer courses in a wide variety of subject focus areas and, as such, we invite candidates of all industry areas to apply.
- Honors Colloquia are three credit courses which give students the opportunity to expand their learning beyond the scope of their majors through unique cross-disciplinary topics. These courses are developed to expand knowledge outside of a student's field of study.
- Honors Seminars, including our Great Works series, are one credit courses designed for an in-depth exploration, reading, discussion over the course of a term in a small group setting.
If hired, adjunct faculty members will employ a variety of strategies to foster student learning and discussion, as well as encourage active learning in all students. Honors Program faculty are expected to maintain proper course-related records, evaluate student work, and provide student with timely feedback as to the progress toward meeting the objectives of the course. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom or online setting.
Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of the Honors Program within the Pennoni Honors College. Responsibilities may include teaching days, evenings, nights and weekends.
Essential Functions
- Teach the required number of credit hours per quarter based on their contract.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to the teaching of undergraduate students, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation.
- Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes
- Schedule one office hour per week either virtually or in-person for student availability
- Schedule administrative time for classroom preparation.
- Maintain communication with the Director and Assistant Director of Academic Operations regarding any course or student issues.
- Perform other similar duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 1 year experience
- Demonstrable academic and/or professional experience commensurate with course content and requirements
- Demonstrable experience in teaching, also remote/online if so required, and in using electronic learning environment, preferable Black Board
Master's degree in related discipline to proposed elective.
