Manager of DevOps

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is hiring a Manager of Dev Ops. This role leads the Security Dev Ops team within the Information Security Office, setting technical direction, overseeing security technology outcomes, managing vendor relationships, and coordinating across university departments to deliver secure, scalable, and integrated security tooling.

• Lead the Security Dev Ops team responsible for security tooling across all Information Security Office functions.
• Set technical direction, solution architecture, and manage operational results within the security technology portfolio.
• Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiation, and vendor management under a buy-before-build model.
• Apply modern Dev Ops practices focused on automation, integration, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
• Manage and develop an engineering team covering software development, automation, operations, and user experience.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders including central IT, procurement, legal, and academic units.
• Required skills include experience in software development, systems engineering or Dev Ops with leadership experience; strong knowledge of security, reliability, compliance in systems; and vendor management capabilities.
• Preferred qualifications include familiarity with information security tools and frameworks, and experience in higher education or large decentralized organizations.
• Compensation range is $130,000 to $140,000 per year.
• Requires a master's degree with 2-4 years' experience or a bachelor's degree with 3-5 years' experience, plus at least seven years of relevant technical experience and three years in team leadership.
