This position is responsible for overseeing the grants and contracts for the Phoenix Children's research and sponsored programs. The role assists investigators and staff with the grant application process, reviews and administers all clinical and translational laboratory neuroscience research throughout the grant development process from pre-award through post-award administration, including proposal review, institutional sign-off, and grant-related correspondence. The position requires effective collaboration with Accounting and Finance departments, the Office of Research, and Institute staff in the preparation of program budgets, budget modifications, contracts, and program progress and financial reports.

The role also provides the opportunity for program development and growth by assisting in the identification of federal, state, and other grants as well as reviewing and negotiating contracts at Phoenix Children’s.

Position Duties
  • Assist the Director of Research Coordination and Education in research oversight and business-related issues such as grant management, development of inter- and intra-institutional financial contracts, material transfer and data sharing agreements, oversight of financial management of clinical trials, and monitoring and reporting on financial, budgetary, and regulatory issues.
  • Maintain documentation of proposals, track financial metrics and outcomes, and produce related reports. Ensure grant proposal compliance.
  • Develop non-science documents for proposal submission (budget, narrative, facilities, inclusion of minorities, protection of human subjects, etc.).
  • Disseminate compliance information to research and administrative staff.
  • Review and reconcile monthly Research and Foundation Summary Sheets.
  • Prepare and submit the annual Research Budget to Phoenix Children’s Finance.
  • Provide regular reports related to research and funding opportunities.
  • Serve as lead contact for pre- and post-award activities for research grants, specializing in regulatory requirements of funding agencies, contract administration, transfers and changes, and interactions with other institutions.
  • Promote funding opportunity awareness among Phoenix Children’s Research staff and maintain currency with electronic research administration needs.
  • Communicate Phoenix Children’s policies and procedures to investigators.
  • Work with the Office of Research to electronically submit grant and fellowship applications to external sponsors.
  • Serve as liaison with external funding agency staff on grant-related administrative issues throughout the proposal submission and award acceptance processes.
  • Review terms and conditions of awards for acceptability and compliance, negotiate terms with sponsors as needed.
  • Oversee post-award financial grants management with the Finance Department, including communication with external sponsors, budget reallocations, reporting, and request for carry forwards.
  • Coordinate proposal submission activities with the Phoenix Children’s Foundation, including budget assistance and review of grant budgets for inclusion in proposals.
  • Obtain and coordinate preparation of required forms for proposals, ensuring budgets meet agency guidelines.
  • Formulate policies and align procedures for grants administration with the Office of Research.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
Position Qualifications Education
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
  • 2. Master’s degree in a related field. (Preferred)
Experience
  • 1. Three (3) or more years of research experience with at least two (2) years of experience processing grants, contracts, and budgets. (Required)
  • 2. Experience with a not-for-profit research institute subject to A-122. (Preferred)
