Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction (self-perform)
Jobot, a Heavy Civil General Contractor based in Phoenix, AZ, invites applications for a Permanent Estimator for heavy civil construction projects. This role focuses on self‑perform projects and offers an annual salary of $110,000–$140,000.
Job Details• Permanent full‑time position.
• Requires strong experience with HCSS, Microsoft Project, value engineering, blueprint reading, and negotiation skills.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Evaluate and analyze bid documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Conduct site visits and gather necessary data to accurately estimate costs.
- Use Microsoft Project to manage and track project timelines and costs.
- Apply value engineering principles to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
- Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to secure the best prices and contracts.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project scope and requirements.
- Present estimates to senior management and clients, explaining the basis for the costs and the methods used.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for heavy civil construction projects, with a focus on self‑perform work.
- Proven expertise in estimating costs for underground utilities, site work, drainage, and roadway construction.
- Strong knowledge of contract management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar project management software.
- Solid understanding of value engineering principles and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
- Excellent negotiation skills, with a track record of securing favorable terms and prices.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
