Ardurra is seeking a Construction Observation Inspector to join our staff in Arizona
. This position is open to both part-time and full-time opportunities. You must be willing to travel to various projects in Arizona.
In this role, the Construction Inspector will observe and inspect various construction sites.
Primary DutiesConstruction observation and inspection duties include, but are not limited to:
- Visit construction sites to monitor activities
- Observe compliance with all safety protocols
- Arrange and review material testing results
- Determine and document quantity of work completed and materials used
- Assist in preparing pay estimates and change orders for construction contracts
- Track project budgets and contract amendments
- Participate in project meetings to plan and review project progress
- Investigate complaints
- Confer with contractors and the general public to resolve problems with inspections
- Interpret surveying documents; read plans, maps, or graphic instructions
- Communicate project status and issues to management in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with jurisdiction specifications and details such as Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) standard specifications, and related public works construction standards
- Coordinate survey requests and staking
- Monitor trenching for alignment and grade, shoring, and manhole locations and compaction, check pipes, valves, and fire hydrants for proper location, type, and operations
- Monitor conflicts with other utilities
- Required to use appropriate safety equipment and follow approved safety procedures
- Inspect the full range of public works construction projects, including streets, alleys, water and sewer lines, irrigation facilities, storm drains, and permit construction in the public right-of-way, for compliance with standard details, specifications, and approved plans
- Inspect materials, grades, and other work for compliance with standard and special specifications, details, plans, and standard construction practices
- Complete daily and monthly progress reports and assist in preparing monthly and final pay estimates
- Compute monthly estimates of work completed and recommend payment for contractors
- Monitor the Quality Assurance Plan and call for testing as required
- Review progress of projects being inspected for the city by others and assist them in coordinating work
- Train other construction inspectors as needed
- Inspect traffic control barricade set‑ups in accordance with City of Phoenix Traffic Barricade Manual, including ADA requirements
- Coordinate with utilities, other departments, contractors, and sub‑contractors
- Review quantities based on plans and specifications prior to construction
- Work with survey personnel to prepare record drawings
- Ensure materials are used in accordance with standard details, specifications, approved plans, and normal construction practices
- Record all field changes for “as‑built” drawings or ensure contractors/architects/engineers record changes
- Handle property owners’ complaints and inquiries about construction activities
- Call for survey support as required by construction progress
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Inspect trench backfill, sub‑grade, and aggregate base course for grade, compaction, moisture, and preparation for paving
- Attend and participate in pre‑construction meetings with department staff, engineers, contractors, developers, and other organizations
- Use Microsoft Office Programs – Word, Excel, Outlook
- Represent Ardurra in a professional manner demonstrating respect, integrity, and professionalism
- Perform related duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED equivalency
- 4+ years’ experience in public works construction inspection work or related field
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities
