The assistant editor produces articles for web publication on issues.org; this includes preparing and scheduling pieces, optimizing for search, assigning DOIs, and promoting articles on various social media channels.

The assistant editor copyedits and fact-checks articles for the quarterly magazine, following the Chicago Manual of Style and the Issues style guide, and works closely with the managing editor on other tasks related to editing, producing, and promoting Issues. The assistant editor contributes to audience development efforts and outreach for events and assists with research for podcasts, copyright permissions, article assignments, book reviewers, event participants, and more.

Finally, the assistant editor reports on web analytics, audience metrics, and other efforts to maintain and grow Issues’ readership.

The editor must be able to handle mundane but essential tasks while also experimenting with novel efforts to engage and grow audiences for the website, newsletters, podcast, print journal, and events.

The editor should have experience in copyediting and the ability to follow the Issues style guide when working on articles written by experts in various fields related to science and technology.

The assistant editor needs to be good at time management and committed to communicating clearly with colleagues, authors, and partners at the National Academy of Sciences and Arizona State University.
