GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Events Department System Technician (Audio and Lighting) will function under the direction of the President, Principal, Vice-Principal and Events Department Director of Xavier College Preparatory. This person will be involved with the daily functioning of the events department, as well as specifically support audio and lighting systems on campus. They will perform a variety of technical work, generally help to maintain theatrical and facility equipment, assist the Fine Arts and Maintenance faculty, Campus facility subcontractors, and students involved with XCP events.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Events Department System Technician (Audio and Lighting) will function under the direction of the President, Principal, Vice-Principal and Events Department Director of Xavier College Preparatory. This person will be involved with the daily functioning of the events department, as well as specifically support audio and lighting systems on campus. They will perform a variety of technical work, generally help to maintain theatrical and facility equipment, assist the Fine Arts and Maintenance faculty, Campus facility subcontractors, and students involved with XCP events.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Organizes, employs, and operates small-scale events in Founder’s Hall.
  • Communicates status and trains personnel on operations of Founder’s Hall A/V systems.
  • Assists with the drafting of documents for large-scale events.
  • Assist the Head of Audio regarding microphones, monitors, cabling and other audio setup needs. Also, be responsible for the organization and upkeep of that equipment.
  • Assist the Events team with lighting, including prepping of fixtures, lighting hang and focus, power, and cabling. Assist with the design of lighting on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist with the technical setup and operation of XCP events as needed. This includes events such as mass, auctions, fashion shows, school dances and other various campus events.
  • Assist with general storage and backstage organization.
  • Assist with basic setups of meetings in Founders Hall, including video, audio, and minor staging.
  • Be directly responsible for the mezzanine area of the shop, keep it organized and tidy.
  • Assist XCP faculty, staff, and administration as needed in areas of technical support as it relates to events and venues that the events department is responsible for.
  • Abide by and enforce rules of respect and behavior on campus according to the guidelines set by XCP.
Skill, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Understanding of Audio equipment (wired/wireless microphones, monitors, mixing consoles, keyboards, and recording equipment)
  • Understanding of Lighting equipment (Fixtures, hang/focus, lighting console, DMX systems).
  • Understanding of and experience with general electrical and mechanical systems and specifically, of theatrical equipment and installations.
  • Understanding of the dangers of facility equipment and adhesion to safety procedures.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with potential overtime and odd hours.
  • Ability to work as a team member, employing skills of communication, cooperation, and problem-solving, and a general positive attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to take initiative when work needs to be done, to work as effectively on one’s own as with others while maintaining focus and motivation.
  • General computer skills.
Qualifications

  • 3 years experience with audio systems and equipment.
  • 3 years experience in a live events environment.
  • 2 years experience with basic theatrical lighting equipment.
