The successful candidate will provide leadership and coordination for the Media Arts Area of Study while delivering high-quality instruction in Digital Media Arts, Graphic Design, Animation and Time-Based Media, and Illustration and Sequential Art. In support of a learning-centered environment, the faculty member will actively engage in student recruitment and academic advising, foster inclusive and innovative learning experiences, and contribute continuously to the excellence and vitality of the Art Program and the Visual & Performing Arts Department.
EssentialFunctions
- Supervise and instruct students in Media Arts-related courses for students planning to transfer to a university or enter the workforce, as well as community members seeking self-enrichment opportunities.
- Develop written syllabi/course outlines and course materials.
- Actively recruit and retain students for the Art Program.
- Maintain office hours to assist and potentially advise students.
- Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor’s degree or higher OR
- A Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree or higher in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field
Occupational experience may include professional, paid work in media arts such as graphic design, digital media design, or animation. Acceptable documentation may include: ACA certification; other official training or certification documentation; a professional art or media portfolio; letters from employers or clients; and copies of published or publicly exhibited work.
Desired Qualifications- Three or more years of documented professional experience teaching four or more media arts-related software programs (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Blender)
- Three or more years of collegiate-level teaching experience in media arts-related courses (graphic design and animation)
- Professional experience across a range of media disciplines (graphic design, web design, animation, 3D printing, illustration)
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
- Knowledge of the philosophy of a Learning College
- One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years
- MCCCD does not sponsor work visas.
- Some evening and/or weekend teaching assignments may be required.
- May have to lift and transport media arts equipment over 40 lbs.
