Position Highlights

The Center for Clinical Skills and
Assessments is currently seeking faculty Clinical Skills Evaluators for the Doctoring
Program to teach and assess interviewing and physical exam skills to 1st and/or
2nd year UA medical students, in a structured setting, using standardized
patients (SP). The Center is outfitted with video monitoring equipment in each
of the 24 exam rooms. The space is equipped with Learning Space, a web-based
technology, which allows video recording of the SP encounters, and also allows
faculty to view live and students to review the encounters after the event, allowing for feedback
and assessment.

During each of the blocks there is a
concentration on a specific group of organ systems except in the first block
when a cursory introduction to medical interviewing and the physical
examination is presented. Therefore, the interview and physical exam elements
emphasized are focused on those organ systems.

The first year Doctoring Course has
been divided into blocks:

  • Block 1:
Molecular Bases and Life and Disease (MBLD)
  • Block 2:
    Musculoskeletal Neurologic (MSNS
    1)
  • Block 3:
    Neurological Sciences (NS
    2)
  • Block 4 Cardiovascular Hematology (CV-Heme)
  • Block 5:
    Pulmonary Renal Acid Base (PRAB)

The academic year begins the
1st week in July and ends in mid-May.

Year
2 is compressed, beginning the 2nd week of July and
ending in mid-December. The
second year Doctoring Course has also been
divided into blocks:

  • Block 1: GI, metabolism, Diabetes, Nutritional Science (GIMDN)
  • Block 2:
Reproduction, Endocrine, Behavior through the Life Span (REBLS)

The class of 120 students has been divided into half
with 1/3 of the
class attending class on Tuesday,
Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon from 12:45-5:45 pm, approximately every other week.
Each of these groups is further divided into cohorts of three students each and
assigned to a physician coach (Cohort Faculty). Assigned student faculty
pairings remain the same during the semester to ensure that
each student is monitored for adequate progress. Module Faculty members also
assist in teaching physical examination and other
skills. Module Faculty are present at each session and are responsible for 6 students.

The successful candidate will
fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department,
actively participate in teaching, clinical service, and/or
scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant,
Associate or Full Professor.
