Position Highlights

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Develop research/evidence-based program designed for all audiences, using a variety of educational methods.
  • Conduct staff and volunteer training workshops to ensure understanding of 4-H policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Develop content for fact sheets, peer-reviewed journal articles, and informational sheets.
  • Successfully secure external funding (grants, contracts, and gifts) to support county-based programming.
  • Adapt and develop educational materials for under-resourced populations.
  • Contribute to statewide 4-H program efforts by working on task forces, work groups, and event committees.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Program Development & Management

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative non-formal 4-H positive youth development programs, including management of an active countywide 4-H Club program.
    • Develop, coordinate, train, and manage a volunteer system for youth and adult volunteers who deliver programming and manage 4-H clubs.
    • Identify community needs related to youth in cooperation with community groups, 4-H volunteers, local leaders, Extension advisory groups, and other Extension professionals, develop an annual Plan of Work.
    • Collaborate with County and campus faculty, the AZ 4-H Associate Director, and other experts to develop educational programs, applied research, and scholarly works.
    • Fiscal/Budget management and resource development for county 4-H programs.
    • Provide direct leadership and supervision for the county 4-H staff and volunteers.

    Youth Development and Volunteer Engagement

    • Recruit and promote 4-H club membership and participation to expand program reach.
    • Build collaboration between 4-H and other community groups, agencies, and organizations to assist adults, youth, and families.
    • Encourage and support youth participation in local, county, district, state, national, and international opportunities.

    Scholarly Activity and Research

    • Prepare educational material, evaluation instruments, publications of research results, and publicity information in support of state, county, and community initiatives.
    • Evaluate and document the results and impacts of applied research and 4-H educational programs and disseminate through countywide and/or multi-county events, workshops, websites, newsletters, and other mass media methods.

    Collaboration and Outreach

    • Participate in community events to market 4-H and recruit new volunteers and members.
    • Participate in statewide working groups to develop new and creative programming efforts and to promote communication and teamwork.
    • Use technology, social media, and outreach platforms to market 4-H opportunities.
    • Promote Cooperative Extension as the outreach arm of the University of Arizona.

    • Work as a member of the diverse Arizona 4-H team by participating in training, sharing expertise, and serving on task forces and signature program teams.
    • Maintain professional competence through study, participation in professional activities, and the application of knowledge and skills.
