Position Description

The Counselor provides personal and career counseling for students at the Phoenix Job Corps Center to enhance employability and ensure continued enrollment and measurable success in the Job Corps program.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing personal/career counseling to enhance student employability and ensure continued enrollment and quantifiable success.
• Identifying and remediating student barriers to success; developing individualized student career educational plans while ensuring strict confidentiality of sensitive information and integrity of student data.
• Acting as the Counseling & CPP Manager in the manager's absence.
• Following all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensuring no manipulation of student data.
• Ensuring the student case load meets or exceeds DOL/Company performance goals.
• Providing comprehensive and individualized case management to ensure student progress, retention, and completion of the program.
• Establishing supportive and mentoring relationships with students throughout enrollment and providing personal, educational, and career counseling.
• Providing ongoing assessment of student progress in Academics, Career Technical, and Independent Living.
• Developing and updating student Personal Career Development Plans.
• Coordinating on-Center and off-Center services to ensure student retention and success; transporting students as needed.
• Routinely evaluating and documenting student performance using the case management system.
• Contributing to the Center’s culture by treating students with care and respect, assisting them in achieving personal and career goals, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment during enrollment.
• Producing quality work and assignments in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner.
• Maintaining appropriate personal attendance, accountability, and work productivity standards.
• Planning, prioritizing, and organizing assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
• Understanding and applying job knowledge to effectively complete all duties.
• Proactively maintaining the skills required to perform job duties.
• Mentoring, monitoring, and modeling the Career Success Standards as required by PRH.
• Providing high-quality supervision and management for the student population; taking swift and appropriate action, positively influencing student behavior, showing respect and courtesy, and holding students accountable for their actions.
• Providing quality programs and services; ensuring quality is maintained and student needs are met while pursuing improvement and enhancement of programs and services.
• Exchanging ideas and information both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, contributing meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge, and providing quality and timely information to DOL/Company when requested.
• Effectively articulating thoughts and ideas; identifying problems, analyzing causes, and evaluating appropriate solutions prior to recommending actions; following up to ensure prompt action and problem resolution.
• Working in partnership with staff from all departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
