Non‑Interim Position
Purpose Statement
The job of Library Media Technician is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for maintaining the library collection at school sites; identifying age‑appropriate resources for students and teachers; selecting items in support of classroom instruction; and performing clerical functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks.
Essential Functions
- Assists teachers, students, staff and administrators in identifying resource materials for classroom use.
- Evaluates books and/or periodicals for retention within the collection.
- Maintains materials inventory for an up‑to‑date reference and availability.
- Monitors student activities and participates in unit meetings, in‑service training, workshops, etc.
- Performs circulation activities such as check‑in/out, circulation counts, overdue lists, and disposal of damaged items.
- Processes new student library cards, notices of missing, damaged or overdue items, and ensures access to resources and reimbursement for losses.
- Processes library books, periodicals, software and related media materials, including bar‑coding, shelving, and cataloging.
- Repairs books and materials and responds to inquiries from students, staff and parents.
Other Functions
- Orders supplies and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
