If you enjoy reading and working with young learners, and are looking for a part-time job, then this position is for you!

About the Organization

Read Better Be Better (RBBB) is a nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona, founded in 2014 as a response to the state's literacy crisis. Our mission is to connect young readers and youth leaders to inspire a love of literacy and leadership. Our vision is a world in which empowered communities demand equitable access to foundational skills. Our values are simple - Be Excellent, Be Kind!

An

Afternoon as a Program Coach

Working as an RBBB Program Coach gives you the opportunity to work with elementary students either during the school day or in a dynamic after-school club atmosphere, including our Community-Based (CBO) programs held in spaces such as public libraries across Arizona. The environment is fast-paced and engaging, full of reading, learning, and games. Program Coaches complete essential paid training and onboarding before beginning at their assigned site.

In the RBBB K-1 Program, Program Coaches train 4th-5th grade "Leaders" in RBBB's curriculum to help build reading confidence in Kindergarten and 1st-grade "Readers." In the RBBB 2-3 Program, Program Coaches train middle school "Leaders" to support reading confidence growth in their 2nd-3rd grade "Readers." Primarily, the Program Coach facilitates the literacy program, monitors curriculum progress, and helps maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.

Each week, Program Coaches within the same region meet—either virtually or in person—with their Program Coordinator to share successes, discuss challenges, and gather any needed materials. Program Coaches also participate in professional development workshops throughout the semester.

Whether programming occurs during the school day, after school, or within our CBO sites, each term concludes with a graduation celebration at the assigned location. Although the program is term-based, Program Coaches are encouraged to continue for future terms (fall, spring, and summer).

What you need to be qualified

Must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

* Preferred Candidates have prior experience working with children in educational, tutoring, mentoring, or program facilitation settings and/or are enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Teaching, Early Childhood or Youth Development, Education, Social Work, or related field). We look for individuals with the ability to engage and motivate students in a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment, and who can support students in delivering program activities.

Work

Schedule

This position is for the Spring 2026 term, which begins on January 26th. Coach training sessions will be held between January 12th through January 24th, and you will have the opportunity to select the training date that works best for your schedule. A minimum commitment of 5 hours per week is expected for the duration of the term. While not required, there may be opportunities to substitute at additional sites if you are interested in working more hours.

The program operates two days per week at your assigned location (for example: Monday/Wednesday, Monday/Thursday, or Tuesday/Thursday afternoons), plus a one-hour weekly Coach meeting, held either virtually or at a central location. Your exact schedule will depend on the specific site assignment.

You will be assigned to one of our partnering program sites for the semester. In addition to our Community-Based (CBO) programs held in public libraries across Arizona, we also operate in school districts located throughout the East Valley, West Valley, and Central Phoenix.
