This role designs, plans, and provides specially designed instruction (SDI) based on individualized education programs (IEPs); co-plans, co-instructs, and co-assesses in co-teaching settings to support students with disabilities in the general education curriculum; and collaborates with other professionals to implement inclusive practices per students  IEPs.

Responsibilities
  • Designs, plans, and provides specially designed instruction (SDI) based on individualized education programs (IEPs).
  • Co-plans, co-instructs, and co-assesses when co-teaching to support students with disabilities access curriculum and make progress in the general education setting, sharing grading responsibilities with the general education teacher(s).
  • Uses content knowledge and interpersonal skills to foster student learning.
  • Assesses student learning by using a variety of appropriate formal and informal methods.
  • Supports specific student needs, including learning, language, and physical needs.
  • Keeps and maintains required records, such as SDI logs, progress reports, parents/student communication logs, and IEP paperwork.
  • Reviews students on their caseload to ensure that federal and state requirements are met in accordance with timelines for annual IEP meetings, quarterly progress notes, Extended School Year decisions, and transition services.
  • Follows meeting agendas to lead the annual IEP meetings for students on their caseload and abides by deadlines.
  • Collaborates with other professionals, including general education teachers and/or other service providers, on creating and implementing inclusive practices, including accommodations and modifications outlined in students  IEPs.
  • Documents and actively seeks to resolve issues related to student behavior problems and attendance.
  • Attends ongoing professional development and applies new evidence-based strategies to their teaching practices.
  • Commits to the role of an active participant in a Collaborative Team to review data, engage in new strategies, and address needs identified by the group.
  • Assumes legal responsibility for the supervision of students on school property or during school-sponsored events.
  • Communicates regularly with parents regarding student progress.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Possesses a bachelor s degree.
  • Has experience working with students with varying disabilities within the general education setting.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of specially designed instruction (SDI).
  • Possess a Current Arizona Standard Secondary Teaching Certificate.
  • Possess current certification in Special Education.

  • Ensures effective SDI, accommodations, and modifications are implemented in inclusive settings based on students  IEPs.
  • Creates and maintains documents that conform to federal, state, and district guidelines.
  • Demonstrates skills using technology, such as operating a personal computer and utilizing a variety of software applications.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district.
  • Understands applicable Federal, State, county, city, and district statutes, rules, policies, procedures, and legal timelines.
  • Has the ability to train other staff to implement services outlined in the IEP to conform to federal, state, and district guidelines.
  • Works independently with moderate supervision.
