Vista College Prep Ameri Corps Members serve as an integral part of school communities, partnering with teachers and school leaders to improve student academic achievement, attendance, and school culture. Members provide one-on‑one and small‑group tutoring in reading, mathematics, and English language development, delivering targeted, differentiated instruction that helps students build the skills needed for academic success. Ameri Corps Members also support positive student behavior by providing supervision during bus transportation, breakfast, lunch, recess, and other non‑instructional times.
Working alongside school staff, members reinforce school expectations, build positive relationships with students, and implement proactive behavior supports that maximize instructional time and create safe, supportive learning environments. To improve student attendance, members partner with teachers and administrators to educate students and families about the importance of regular school attendance, monitor attendance trends, and communicate with families to encourage consistent participation in school.
Through these combined efforts, Vista College Prep Ameri Corps Members help increase academic proficiency, improve student engagement and behavior, strengthen school climate, and ensure more students attend school consistently and are prepared to succeed.
Vista College Prep Ameri Corps Members support student success by increasing teacher capacity through academic and operational support. Members provide small‑group tutoring in reading and math, assist with academic and behavioral interventions, support school‑wide systems, and participate in professional learning experiences that prepare them for careers in education, including supervised instructional opportunities. Members also foster a positive school culture by serving as bus monitors, supporting daily school operations, and assisting with school‑wide events.
Through these efforts, Ameri Corps Members help create safe, engaging learning environments that improve academic achievement, student behavior, attendance, and overall school success.
