Position Description

Purpose: To provide support to the instructional process, ensuring the safety and welfare of students in support service areas such as noon duty coverage, AM/PM duty coverage, classroom assistance, crosswalk coverage and other campus needs.

Essential Functions
  • Assist students with safe access to and from assigned locations.
  • Communicate safety and security policies to students, staff, and visitors, ensuring understanding of the consequences of violations.
  • Maintain job‑related equipment (stop signs, jackets, sand bags, flags, etc.) to ensure availability of required items.
  • Monitor individual and groups of students in various settings (classroom, playground, field trips, between periods, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) to ensure compliance with guidelines and maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor student behavior entering and exiting school grounds to ensure compliance and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Refer incidents (e.g., personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations) to appropriate personnel for follow‑up according to administrative, site security and student safety guidelines.
  • Report observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions) to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries from students and parents regarding campus security issues, providing information, direction and referral.
  • Respond to a variety of situations (e.g., accidents, injuries) by taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety or security concerns.
  • Support classroom teachers and other school personnel in ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
Other Functions
  • Participate in unit meetings, in‑service training, workshops, etc. to convey and/or gather required information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Adhering to safety practices; enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Basic math; understanding written procedures; writing routine documents; speaking clearly; understanding complex multi‑step written & oral instructions.
  • Safety practices, procedures & traffic laws knowledge.
  • Ability to schedule activities; collate data; use basic job‑related equipment; work with others in various circumstances; operate equipment with defined methods.
  • Problem solving to identify issues and create action plans; follow prescribed guidelines; display tact, courtesy, attentiveness to detail, maintain confidentiality.

Responsibility: Work under direct supervision using standardized routines; provide information or advising others; continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The job requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and fine finger dexterity. Body posture: approximately 40% sitting, 30% walking, 30% standing. Work under temperature extremes, risk of injury or illness.

Experience

Job‑related experience desired.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.
