Join to apply for the Associate Geotechnical Engineer role at WSP in the U.S.. WSP is initiating a search for an Associate Geotechnical Engineer for our Tempe, AZ office. The successful candidate will provide support to project managers responsible for delivering geotechnical engineering projects to clients. Your Impact
  • Perform geotechnical field investigations and construction oversight.
  • Under general supervision, set up geotechnical investigations (e.g., driller acquisition, traffic control, permitting, utility locates).
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from field work, soil/water/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, and other geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements.
  • Perform basic design engineering computations (e.g., quantity calculations, foundation design, slope stability) under the guidance of a senior engineer.
  • Design or redesign layouts and drawings from project requirements.
  • Prepare geotechnical design reports under the guidance of a senior engineer.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work and permitting.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Will travel to project sites in Arizona and possibly the western U.S. The job will be approximately up to 50% field work; and approximately 30% of field work may require travel beyond the Phoenix metro area.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering or closely related discipline
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset
  • EIT or the ability to obtain the EIT within 1 year of hire
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
  • Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • Prior internship related to the degree/discipline
  • AutoCAD experience
