Functions as a technical specialist or supervisory role, independently develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. May supervise engineering staff on medium to high complexity projects, or serve as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise.

• Execute complex structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for the design of water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, and other complex structural facilities.
• Supervise Structural Engineers (both in the US and overseas) and work with Structural Technicians in the preparation of structural drawings and specifications. Lead larger production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects.
• Perform construction phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing contractor submittals.
• Perform project administrative tasks, which may include design fee estimates, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, managing project changes, and implementing Black & Veatch Quality Control requirements.
• Coordinate work with architects and other discipline engineers.
• Lead a team to execute complex projects with construction values greater than $200M.
• Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies. Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards. Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
• Support continuous improvement efforts.
• Implement resource management strategy including managing resources for a small group.

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates.

• Master of Engineering or Master of Science from an ABET accredited Structural Engineering program.
• Familiarity with the latest editions of the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Construction Manual, and ACI 530.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAADPro, or SAP 2000.
• Proficiency with non‑structural software packages such as Bluebeam, Project Wise, AutoCAD, and Revit.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program, or equivalent experience in engineering work.
• Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries.

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments. The opportunity may be located in any of Black & Veatch’s U.S. offices. Some positions may be relocation eligible.
