Structural Project Manager, Cold-Formed Steel (CFS)
Join GPLA Structural Engineers and Builders as a Structural Project Manager focused on cold‑formed steel (CFS). GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in structural engineering, delivering innovative solutions for a wide range of construction projects.
Responsibilities- Lead projects from conceptual design through construction completion, coordinating all aspects of the structural design process and construction administration.
- Mentor and manage Structural Designers I‑II, Design Engineers, and Project Engineers.
- Manage production of drawings, specifications, and calculations throughout the design life cycle.
- Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including objectives, scope, deliverables, timelines, and resources.
- Oversee construction administration tasks such as reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
- Develop structural designs and analytical models for various building types, with a focus on CFS.
- Perform and review calculations to ensure structural integrity and code compliance.
- Utilize CAD software (Tekla Structures, etc.) to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure effective collaboration within the team.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
- Lead project design meetings; set agendas, take minutes, and distribute minutes.
- Stay current on industry trends, code updates, and design techniques.
- Identify and implement process improvements, cost optimization, and efficiency initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Monitor project costs, track expenses, and manage the project budget, including monthly status reports.
- Invoice and pursue payment; pursue change orders as necessary.
Skills and Abilities
- In‑depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques.
- Subject matter expertise in CFS framing.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Project prioritization and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and quality control.
- Team collaboration, listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Adaptability to changing project conditions.
- Proficiency with CAD and related software.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Project management experience, including planning, organizing, and executing projects.
- Financial and budget management knowledge.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a structural focus (minimum).
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (required). Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
- Eight years of experience in building structural engineering, with at least five years in CFS design.
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel for site visits to various project locations nationwide.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed.
