Overview

GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in the field of structural engineering, dedicated to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a Structural Project Manager, Healthcare with a strong background in healthcare and hospital projects. This individual is responsible for overseeing and managing projects from conceptual design through construction completion, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the structural design process to ensure delivery in accordance with the project’s scope, budget, and schedule.

The Structural Project Manager, Healthcare will work closely with the design and construction team members to deliver a safe and cost-efficient structural design that meets GPLA’s standards and expectations. This role will focus on healthcare and hospital project experience within the state of Arizona, including compliance with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), local building jurisdictions, and the International Building Code (IBC) with Arizona amendments.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, and Structural Project Engineers.
  • Manage the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations from conceptual design through construction documents.
  • Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met throughout the project life cycle.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans defining objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines, collaborating with design and construction teams to assess structural requirements and resources.
  • Oversee construction administration tasks, such as reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing site visits.
  • Develop structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials; perform and review calculations to ensure code compliance and structural integrity.
  • Apply knowledge of codes, including Arizona healthcare requirements, ADHS, local authorities, and IBC with Arizona amendments.
  • Utilize CAD software (including Tekla Structures) and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Manage team members to meet project deadlines, ensuring collaboration and communication among engineers, modelers, and detailers.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and MEP designers; lead and participate in project design meetings.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, codes, and design techniques; participate in professional development to enhance skills.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancements; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Share leadership within the team and be fully accountable for results; contribute to delivering successful projects and fostering learning and improvement.
  • Monitor project costs, track expenses, and manage the project budget, including Monthly Status Reports; manage invoices and pursue change orders when appropriate.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members.
Required

Skills And Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
  • Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Understanding of Arizona building codes, healthcare facility requirements, ADHS, local municipalities, and IBC with Arizona amendments.
  • Ability to act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the company in a given area of knowledge.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize and lead multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
