About GTI EnergyGTI Energy—a division of GTI Fabrication—is a leader in industrial modular fabrication, serving energy, defense, and heavy industrial markets. With manufacturing operations in Arizona and New York, GTI specializes in high-volume, mission-critical systems such as modular data centers, enclosed battery systems, and energy storage devices. As we expand into more advanced enclosure and fabrication programs, we are seeking an Advanced Sourcing Engineer (ASE) to bridge the gap between engineering design and supply chain execution—driving supplier readiness, cost optimization, and manufacturability for our next-generation product lines.
Position OverviewThe Advanced Sourcing Engineer plays a critical role in connecting the product design process with supplier capabilities. This position will lead sourcing strategy, supplier development, and cost optimization for mechanical fabrication and enclosure systems, ensuring all materials and assemblies meet GTI’s quality, cost, and delivery standards. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, design-for-manufacturability (DFM), and supplier qualification.
This individual will partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to deliver world-class sourcing solutions during new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing production.
- Partner with Engineering and Program Management early in the concept and design phases to ensure supplier input drives design feasibility and manufacturability.
- Influence design decisions based on fabrication feasibility, material availability, and total cost of ownership.
- Develop comprehensive sourcing strategies that balance capability, cost, risk, and regional manufacturing alignment.
- Provide early cost modeling, should-cost analysis, and supply risk assessments to inform design-to-cost initiatives.
- Identify and qualify suppliers specializing in mechanical fabrication—including sheet metal, welded assemblies, frames, and precision-machined components.
- Conduct supplier technical reviews, process capability audits, and prototype builds.
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure supplier readiness for production scale-up.
- Establish clear metrics and readiness plans for suppliers entering NPI and full production phases.
- Manage RFQ processes and supplier selection activities for new programs, ensuring alignment with GTI’s cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Drive sourcing deliverables through NPI phase-gate milestones, ensuring PPAP/FAI documentation and readiness criteria are met.
- Partner with internal manufacturing and external contract manufacturers to coordinate build readiness and material flow.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation plans to ensure continuity of supply and timely execution of production launches.
- Lead cost-reduction initiatives through value engineering, alternative process/material selection, and supplier consolidation.
- Support ongoing standardization and commonization efforts across mechanical and enclosure programs.
- Contribute to supplier performance management and post-launch cost-down initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement lessons learned and best practices from prior NPI cycles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related technical discipline).
- 5+ years of experience in sourcing, supplier development, or manufacturing engineering within mechanical or metal fabrication environments.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes: laser cutting, forming, machining, welding, coating, and mechanical assembly.
- Proficient in interpreting 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings (GD&T).
- Experience with cost modeling, make‑vs‑buy analysis, and DFM/DFA collaboration with design teams.
- Proven success engaging suppliers during prototype and NPI development phases.
- Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001,…
