Position Overview

As a Lead and Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC design at Henderson Engineers, you will contribute expertise across six market sectors:
Business, Community, Grocery & Distribution, Health, Retail, and Venue. Our mechanical engineers play key roles in refrigeration design and collaborate with our sibling company,
Henderson Building Solutions
, to deliver unmatched client experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively advise and mentor less experienced designers and engineers across teams or practices, providing oversight and technical guidance.
  • Takes responsibility for the success of those under their direct supervision.
  • Designs advanced building systems, prepares design documents, and performs engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines. Provides leadership to design staff, including supervising others, and supports business development, corporate operations, and risk management.
  • Leads project and design efforts from concept design through completion.
  • Produces solutions to complex engineering problems and intricate design challenges through direct involvement or advisory capacity.
  • Ensures drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Involved in the development of tools, resources, and company practices.
  • Implements and reinforces design and engineering standards at the team or practice level.
  • Oversees project and design quality through the review process and regular check‑ins, providing final reviews for projects under purview.
Qualifications Lead Level
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 11 years of relevant experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree. Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward one year of direct experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards across a broad range of practices.
  • Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit) and HVAC design software (IESVE, Trane Trace).
Senior Level
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field and 15 years of relevant experience (degree may be substituted with commensurate experience). Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward one year of direct experience.
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards across multiple practice areas.
  • Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit) and HVAC design software (IESVE, Trane Trace).
Preferred Qualifications (Lead & Senior)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Completion of FE exam, LEED and/or WELL accreditation.
  • Advanced knowledge of design, codes, and standards applicable to a range of practices and projects.
