Substation Project Engineer (PE)
HDR is a leading engineering consulting firm committed to building sustainable power systems worldwide. As a Substation Project Engineer, you will develop design deliverables, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure project quality across the transmission sector.
Responsibilities- Develop substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding, and major equipment wiring diagrams.
- Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for low, medium, and high voltage substations.
- Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing.
- Coordinate design activities with Civil, Structural, Transmission Line, and other departments.
- Assign tasks, provide guidance to junior team members, and coordinate QC reviews of junior level engineers and designers.
- Work with Senior Engineers and Business Class Leader to identify and develop technical expertise; attend training and seminars.
- Perform quality control reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
- Mentor, train, and supervise less-experienced EITs and/or designers.
- Conduct site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Electrical emphasis.
- P.E. License.
- Minimum of 5 years of substation design experience.
- Experience with substation layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, conduit plans and details, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and bills of material.
- Strong computer skills:
AutoCAD, Microstation, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software (e.g., CDEGS). - Previous experience with architectural, engineering, or consulting firm desired.
- Some travel may be required.
- Preference for candidates local to Las Vegas, NV or Phoenix, AZ.
- Prior utility consulting or working for an electric utility considered a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).

The compensation range for this position is:
Las Vegas, NV $80,640.00 – $ (varies by experience, education, and location).
