Chief Underground Geomechanical Engineer Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Underground Geomechanical Engineer to lead our underground excavation stability management efforts. This pivotal role involves overseeing support design, stability monitoring, and geomechanical analysis to ensure safe and efficient underground operations. As a key resource and subject matter expert, you will influence project planning, safety standards, and technical excellence across complex underground projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and review ground support designs for underground excavations based on geological and stress conditions, utilizing empirical, kinematic, and stress analysis methods.
  • Manage underground excavation stability data collection, analysis, and remedial work, including monitoring, rock strength parameters, and geologic structures.
  • Provide technical guidance to site managers and engineers on geomechanical practices, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Lead and oversee geomechanical projects, including evaluations of external consultants and vendors, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Stay current with advancements in geotechnical engineering to implement best practices and innovative solutions.

Develop strategic plans to enhance the mine’s underground stability programs and promote continuous improvement.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geological / Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, including leadership or supervisory roles; experience in underground caving operations is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of mining, rock mechanics, and geotechnical engineering principles, with proficiency in modeling and numerical analysis.
  • Expertise in geotechnical software such as RS3, Phase2, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
