Director of Engineering Management – Overview
The Director of Engineering Management leads engineering activities for the company and its sister companies, current and future branches/offices. Responsibilities include hiring and training team members, managing technical projects, and reporting directly to the CEO and Program Management for program and strategic activities.
Responsibilities Strategic- Participate in and implement company strategic expansion and business plans.
- Meet revenue targets.
- Set team goals, prioritize projects, and actively participate in hiring engineers.
- Develop new services, identify requirements, and set implementation timelines.
- Oversee overall engineering operations for current and future branches/offices.
- Control time management by setting realistic project deadlines.
- Develop and maintain master program and project schedules.
- Manage stakeholders at the program and project levels.
- Monitor project team tasks and follow up on daily progress.
- Report program and project progress to the CEO on a weekly basis.
- Manage project administration, submittals, and permits processes.
- Develop monthly work execution reports.
- Prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget.
- Work with leadership to establish a local presence plan and secure new clients.
- Set goals for identifying targeted clients.
- Design strategies for future development projects based on company objectives and resources.
- Ensure customer satisfaction through effective communication with new, existing, and prospective business partners and clients.
- Manage engineering projects end-to-end.
- Produce and review engineering plans to meet client and official authorities’ requirements.
- Make technical assumptions, think independently, and draw engineering conclusions.
- Provide direction for design drawings, specifications, reports, and other deliverables while coordinating with the engineering team and other disciplines.
- Oversee front-end and back-end development teams and their projects.
- Manage the QA/QC internal process with designated team members.
- Ensure compliance with company regulations.
- Monitor and follow up on operations activities across all departments.
- Implement departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist recruitment efforts for advanced professional engineers.
- Ensure effective employee onboarding by coordinating with the Office Manager and Accounting regarding new hire IT requirements, hardware, software subscriptions, and other job-related equipment and tools.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a similar accredited engineering degree.
- Professional Engineer license required.
- 10+ years of civil engineering project management experience, emphasizing design work.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and build teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Strong interpersonal and client relations skills.
- Strong business acumen, including experience with budgeting, P&Ls, and financial controls.
- Excellent computer skills, including intermediate to advanced proficiency with engineering software programs, working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office.
